Bungee jumping can help us to overcome our fear from death. We challenge natural gravity laws, even if just for a moment, in order to confront that fear. Julie, the main to character of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s film, “Blue”, has the opposite problem. She is afraid of living. For Julie life is a burden. It holds sad memories and pain for her. She rejects the objects that ignite the memories from her past life in her mind. Julie wants to forget her life before the accident, before she lost her husband and daughter. The color blue reminds to her of her daughter. When she reads her husband’s music it reminds her of him. But the people around her don’t allow her to forget, so she decides to alienate herself only to rediscover the meaning of life once again. You can’t stop living, even if you really want to. Life will challenge you in unexpected ways. It seems to be a kind of natural law in contemporary life. Julie is a compassionate, good person. We get access to her personality through her actions. She helps her neighbor. She is kind to strangers in the streets. She gives away her house in order to help her husband’s mistress and her new born child. She can’t change who she is even if life was cruel to her. A new born child, love and music eventually will make her enthusiastic about what life can offer you once again. Life is a cycle of new hopes and disappointments, of pain and pleasure.
